Enable 2FA and SMS backup for your account

Learn how to enable two-factor authentication (2FA) using an authenticator app for enhanced account security, set up SMS backup, and troubleshoot access issues.

Two-factor authentication (2FA), explained

TaxDome requires email verification when you sign in. After entering your password, you receive a one-time code to verify your identity.

Coming soon

Email verification with one-time codes is being introduced. If you don’t see this feature yet, it will be available soon.

For enhanced security, you can enable two-factor authentication (2FA) using an authenticator app. This method offers stronger protection than email verification because codes are generated on your device rather than sent via email, making them immune to email interception or phishing attacks.

You can also configure SMS as a backup option if you lose access to your email or authenticator app.

Your firm may require you to use authenticator app 2FA instead of email verification.

Set up authenticator app 2FA for your account

You can enable two-factor authentication on the web or mobile app. After that, the authenticator app will be required to log in on both platforms.

  1. Go to Settings.

  2. Toggle on Two-factor authentication, enter your account password, and click Continue.

  1. Install an authenticator app on your phone if you don’t have one. Supported apps include:
  1. Scan the QR code with your authenticator app or manually enter the secret key.
  1. Enter the 6-digit code from your app and click Confirm.

Your authenticator app is now your primary authentication method.

Tip for iPhone users

You can use the built-in verification codes feature in Settings > Passwords instead of installing a separate app. Open your Camera app, point it at the QR code shown on screen, and tap the banner that appears to select Add Verification Code in Passwords. Your iPhone will then automatically generate and fill in 6-digit login codes for you.
  1. Tap your profile in the top left corner of any section, select Settings, then tap Two-factor authentication.
  1. Follow the instructions: download and install one of the authentication apps, then open it and enter the secret key from the TaxDome client mobile app.

  2. Once your authentication app starts providing authentication codes, go back to the TaxDome Client mobile app and tap Next.

  3. Enter a newly generated code from the authentication app to complete the setup.

Sign in with the authenticator app

Once you’ve set up an authenticator app, you’ll use it to verify your identity when you sign in :

  1. Enter your email and password on the login page.

  2. Open your authenticator app on your phone.

  3. Enter the 6-digit code displayed in the app on the verification page.

  4. Check Remember this device for 30 days if you want to skip verification on this device for the next month.

Note

The code in your authenticator app changes every 30 seconds. If the code expires before you enter it, wait for the new code to appear.

Switch back to email verification

If you no longer want to use an authenticator app:

  1. Go to Settings.

  2. Toggle off Two-factor authentication, enter your account password, and click Continue.

Email verification will be used for future sign-ins.

Note

If your firm requires authenticator app 2FA, you won’t be able to disable it. Contact your firm for more information.

Enable SMS backup

SMS backup lets you receive verification codes via text message if you can’t access your email or authenticator app. This option is not available in the EU.

If you don’t have SMS backup configured, TaxDome automatically suggests a phone number from your contact information when you use the backup option. You can confirm your phone number and complete verification in just a few steps.

  1. Enter your email and password on the login page.

  2. On the verification page, wait 1 minute after your last code request, then click Get code via SMS.

  1. If the system finds a phone number in your contact information, you’ll be asked to confirm it. Enter the full phone number, then click Get code.
  1. Enter the 6-digit verification code sent to your phone via SMS.

  2. Click Continue to complete sign-in.
